If you’re looking for a university city that will give you plenty of opportunity for down-time after a long day studying then there are numerous clubs, bars, pubs, cafes, and both universities have excellent student union facilities.

There’s a packed calendar of events held in the city throughout the year. You can go along to everything from the Dundee Guitar Festival to the Scottish International Film Festival for Children and Young People.

Love shopping? There are plenty of opportunities to do that in Dundee. As well as the High Street, Murraygate, and Wellgate centre there’s the Overgate Centre. For those of you that want designer labels at low prices head to City Quay where a recent redevelopment has seen the introduction of factory outlets for designer stores.

About Abertay university

Things are a bit different, but we are still the same warm and friendly people we always were.

The new term is a form of blended learning with large group learning such as lectures delivered online and small group activity such as tutorials delivered face-to-face on campus in line with social distancing guidance in place at the time.

We’ve worked hard behind the scenes on a range of changes to our buildings and operating systems to help keep you safe.

Career Guidance and Information Service

The Careers Service is here to support you with career decision making during your studies and after you graduate.

We provide a professional career guidance and information service for Abertay students and graduates to help them make informed career choices. We work closely with employers and academic schools to support you by developing your skills to maximise your employability.

The Careers Service can support your career planning in a number of ways, including:

  • Developing your employability skills
  • Identifying potential career options
  • Helping you to find work experience
  • Helping you to understand and demonstrate the skills needed to market yourself to employers

We do this through face to face individual support with our professional advisors and group workshops.

One great example of our careers support is through our annual Principal’s Award.

Campus life

Abertay Campus The University is conveniently located on a city centre campus, with all of its buildings within a quarter of a mile of each other. Shops, recreational facilities and the main bus and train stations are a short walk away. The main buildings- Old College, Kydd Building, Student Centre and Hannah Maclure Centre are in the Bell Street complex, grouped around the University’s award-winning library. There’s always a busy atmosphere around the Abertay campus, as students come and go to lectures, meet with staff, study for exams, and attend tutorials and seminars.

Our Campus shop and cafes are designed to give you places to recharge, eat, drink and socialise. Whether it’s the Library cafe, Aroma, or Campus Shop you can pop in between classes and find what you need.

Places to visit

When you’re not studying, you will have PLENTY to see and do.

  • Visit Edinburgh and Glasgow, which are only 1.5-2 hours away by car or train.
  • Loch Ness maybe you will see the legendary creature! There are A LOT of castles like Edinburgh, Stirling, Balmoral, Glamis, Dunnottar. Dundee has 6 to help get you started.
  • Scotland is full of historical sites. For example Orkney has 5000 year old houses and tombs as well as medieval churches and renaissance palaces.
  • You can also discover stone-carving Picts, warring clans, invading Vikings, enlightened philosophers, amazing poets and one Bonnie Prince.
  • Not forgetting that the film ‘Braveheart’ and ‘Outlander (the TV series) were filmed on location all over Scotland.

Scholarships

This is an award of up to £12,000 for prospective new international undergraduate students.

The award is £3,000 per annum, for a maximum of 4 years total study. Successful recipients will have the award deducted from their tuition fees.

Eligibility

To be eligible you must meet all of the following conditions:

  • Be classified as International (Overseas) fee status by Abertay University.
  • Registered as a full-time student for your first undergraduate degree.
  • Have met all the academic conditions attached to your offer of admission for entry to the University as a new full-time student in September.
  • Be studying on campus at the University.
