About program
The Department of History offers a Master of Arts degree, with an integrated Bachelors of Arts/Master of Arts degree program option. Because the department also offers a special MA as part of its doctoral program, the degree described here is usually known as the “traditional MA.” For a more detailed explanation, see the Joint MA/PhD page.
The traditional MA is a 30-hour program designed to be completed in two or three terms if students enroll full-time. Part-time students are equally welcome. Most classes are offered in the evenings and meet once a week in three-hour slots. Students work closely with a faculty advisor in their historical field to craft a unique course of study, and there are possibilities for significant interdisciplinary work in cognate fields. There are also significant funding opportunities for highly qualified students.
Please direct any further questions to the Director of Graduate Studies.
