About program
If capturing a moment on camera is your passion, but you want to experiment more and try out different approaches, our BA (Hons) Photography course at UCA Farnham will help you push your photographic boundaries and produce fantastic work.
This course has a distinguished history stretching back more than 80 years, during which it has maintained an excellent reputation for engaging with new ways of understanding photography as practice. You’ll learn thematic core units which include research-led lectures, a range of practical workshops and introductory critical and creative tasks, workshops and across course collaborations – all designed to allow you to experiment and develop your own independent practice.
You’ll have access to a wide range of digital and analogue facilities, and because Photography sits alongside Fine Art and Digital Art as an interdisciplinary group of courses, you’ll have the chance to take part in cross-course elective units and collaborative opportunities which will only serve to elevate your learning experience and build a programme around your research interests.
From 2022, you have the option to complete a Professional Practice Year as part of this course. This will give you the opportunity to develop your professional, academic and personal potential, equipping you to be confident and engaged in creative workplaces. Employers widely recognise these qualities, and a significant proportion of placement students are offered graduate-level jobs or go onto postgraduate study. And even if you don’t take this option, we’ll help you work towards your ideal career trajectory.
Our renowned teaching team bring with them high research profiles and industry connections, both nationally and internationally. We’ve also celebrated recent student successes including 2021 graduates presenting at Photo London, being shortlisted for the photographers’ gallery graduate show and being featured in the graduate issue of Photoworks.
As a graduate you too could go on to become a successful photographer or work in the photographic industries – this may include a variety of fields including editorial, advertising, fine art, documentary-making, and gallery/project management.
