Education

Liberal arts is a unique system of education popular in America. In the liberal arts system, you study a variety of disciplines (for example sciences, arts, history, economics, business) while at the same time achieving an in-depth knowledge in the field of your chosen major(s). Liberal arts students have the  freedom to choose areas of study, professors and curriculum; small class sizes and close interaction between student and faculty is the norm. In a liberal arts setting, the residential campus and rich and varied choice of extracurricular activities are particularly important.

Library services

AUBG Library is named for Dimitry and Yvonne Panitza as a sign of gratitude for their continuous support and inspiration. They have helped to develop the Library into a modern center of learning and research. Our goal is to use a combination of traditional and new technology-driven sources in a creative way to support and inspire all our students on their academic journey. Providing state-of-the-art facilities, comfortable reading areas and friendly atmosphere, the Library has become a favorite spot for not only scholastic and cultural lectures but also mere students’ gatherings. Panitza library collection consists of over 120 000 books, 300 000 eBooks, 40 000 electronic journals, etc. Apart from that we provide access to thousands of top-library collections around the world via the Interlibrary Loan service.

ICT services

Computers are an important element of the AUBG education, as well as an essential part of student life. All students have personal accounts which allow them to use the system. A set of rules determines the proper functioning of the computer lab facilities and the personal accounts. Students are encouraged to use the computing facilities for their assignments. Several computer labs offer opportunities for word processing and Internet communications, as well as other specific applications. Many journalism/mass-communication and computer science courses utilize discipline-specific computer labs during their regular class hours.

At AUBG computer access is universal – in keeping with AUBG’s mission to promote freedom of information, open exchange, and independent learning. AUBG is also the best technological model in Bulgaria, demonstrating a degree of functional computerization that is unmatched elsewhere in the country.  – https://www.aubg.edu/student-computing-environment

Student life

Campus life

AUBG undergraduates love life on campus. It’s fun, varied, comfortable and there are many opportunities to both work and play hard. When you join our student family, you’ll find yourself in a supportive, diverse environment where you’ll discover new outlets for creativity, personal growth, friendship, challenge and relaxation. The Skaptopara Campusis a one-of-a-kind residential campus in the tradition of the typical American liberal arts colleges, which lets students live, study, and have fun in the same place. Such an environment is essential in nurturing the feeling of togetherness, which distinguishes AUBG from other universities, and stays with AUBGers for the rest of their lives. The unique atmosphere is further enhanced by the modern facilities on campus. The award-winning  America for Bulgaria Student Center offers a sports hall, gym, state-of-the-art theater, restaurant, cafe and plenty of lounge and study space. The Balkanski Academic Center and Panitza Library, both nested in the same stylish building, feature well-equipped classrooms, computer labs (both PC and Mac) and even more quiet places to study.

Sports facilities

We love our sports here! What’s best – we’ve got the facilities and equipment to match the passion.  AUBG students are lucky enough to have one of the best university gymnasiums in Europe. This outstanding venue, housed in the award-winning ABF building, is fully equipped for a variety of sports – football (soccer), basketball, volleyball, tennis and handball, and is open for students to train individually or in groups. It’s made even more unique by the one-of-a-kind running track which circles around the gym on the second floor. The hall is so great, it is occasionally rented by professional athletes such as the Bulgarian Male National Volleyball team.  A workout gym, situated on the basement floor of ABF Student Center offers a variety of cardio equipment, training machines and free weights to those who love to stay in shape. In true American university style, we also play American football and baseball. Nearby is a swimming pool and tennis courts, while the ski resorts of Bansko, Pamporovo and Borovets are within a few hours’ drive. Yoga, tae kwon do, softball, karate, skiing, hiking, aerobics, boxing and kickboxing are among the sports practiced by AUBGers. For some of these we even have studentclubs and intramural teams.  – https://www.aubg.edu/sports-athletics

Student clubs

At AUBG, our students don’t just focus on academic excellence. Our residential campus offers students many opportunities for a different kind of learning: one that’s just as important. In fact we go out of our way to encourage you to fully take part in the vibrant program of events and activities offered here. Not only do our clubs & activities offer lots of fun, they also build essential qualities like organizational and communication skills, taking initiative and venturing outside your comfort zone. We find that academically talented students like you take on roles and pursuits they might never have imagined before. Whatever your interests – music, dance, business, etc., chances are there will be a club at AUBG for you. https://www.aubg.edu/activities-and-clubs
