Academic English Skills
Our Foundation and Undergraduate Year One programmes both offer thorough English language training, along with related academicskills, which will prepare you to progress to a number of universities without having to take an additional IELTS test. Your weekly timetable will include dedicated time to focus on developing the English language entrancere quirements of many UK universities.
Decide on a university whilst in the UK
Choosing your university and degree is an important decision, and one that should be made when you are already in the UK. There is a lot of research that goes into your university application – from course content to campus life. To help you make this decision, we hold one of the largest private university fairs in the UK, twice a year. Attended by more than 70 universities, you’ll have the opportunity to meet university representatives in person and discuss factors such as entry requirements and university life, as well as getting a sense of which university is right for you.

History
Founding Bellerbys
Bellerbys College dates back to 1959, with the opening of Davies College in Hove. We take our name from one of Davies College’s former principals, Robin Bellerby. Ever since its creation, the College has helped to prepare students for university in the UK.
Bellerbys spans sixty years of university preparation across two specialist Colleges in Brighton and London. Today, Bellerbys College is home to students from more than sixty countries.
A specialist international college
Thanks to our long history of specialist education, we are proud to offer a range of courses for international students aged fourteen and upwards. Each of our programmes are supported by activities, trips, talks and challenges. Our approach to teaching takes learning beyond the classroom and into the wider world.
As well as a high-quality British education tailored for international students, our welfare and student services staff ensure that you feel at home from your first day. Each of our students receives individual attention and support to aid development. Our experience as an international college has taught us that this is essential for international students to make a successful transition into British education and culture.

You will have access to a range of support services and resources, including online learning and the student portal. Friendly staff are here to help you stay happy and healthy so you can do well in your studies. We will help you settle in, prepare for exams and find the right university for you.
Student support services
Bellerbys staff work hard to make sure you get the highest quality care and education. So, you can enjoy your life as an international student in the UK. There is a nurse to care for you if you become unwell. Support staff can offer advice and help on any issues you have. And academic staff are here to help you with everything, from making sure you have completed your classwork to your university application.

Accommodation
To make a success of studying overseas you’ll need a place to stay where you can make yourself at home. Bellerbys’ modern accommodation gives you somewhere to live where you can feel safe and secure. So you can concentrate on your studies.
Brighton Residence
If you are 18 years old or younger, you can live in our Brighton Residence, located next to the College. We do, from time to time, accept over 18s in our residence and this will be on a case by case basis. You have the choice of 370 single rooms with an en-suite bathroom, or a shared twin room. By staying in the Brighton Residence, you will benefit from:

Your guide to living in Brighton as a student
Brighton is a vibrant and exciting place to study in the UK – and our Brighton campus is located right in the heart of this seaside city. Brighton is often known as ‘London by the sea’ because of its cosmopolitan atmosphere. It is smaller than London and gives you a safe, welcoming place to study. Perfect for students, Brighton is home to two respected universities with a high student population.
Top things to do in Brighton
- Visit boutique shops and cafés in the Lanes and North Laine.
- Try traditional British fish and chips and arcade games at Brighton Palace Pier.
- Discover the history of King George IV at the Royal Pavilion and Gardens.
- Explore the countryside and take a bus up to Devil’s Dyke in the South Downs National Park.
Beach and countryside
On the beach, you can enjoy activities like basketball, stand-up paddle boarding and kayaking. Walking along the promenade you can find unique shops and restaurants as well as one of the tallest moving observation towers in the world, the i360.
Outside the city, the South Downs National Park offers beautiful countryside and is just a short bus ride from our campus.
Sports
Brighton is home to its own football team, Brighton & Hove Albion F.C, who play in the Premier League – the top league in English football. The team are known as the Seagulls, due to Brighton’s seaside location. Brighton is also known for the Sussex Cricket Club and the Brighton Sailing Club.
If you’re more interested in playing sport than watching, the city is home to multiple parks and open spaces for you to play your favourite sports with your friends.
Music and festivals
You can visit Brighton Festival, one of the biggest arts festivals in Europe. Every year, Brighton Science Festival brings events, hands-on activities and workshops to the city. The CINECITY Film Festival also hosts the best in international cinema each November.
Popular bands from around the world often play shows in Brighton. The city is home to venues of different sizes, from smaller venues like The Old Market and Komedia to larger ones such as the Brighton Centre and Brighton Dome. No matter your taste in music, you’re sure to find a concert and venue to suit you.
An international city
Brighton is an international destination with a multicultural atmosphere. Its two universities are home to students from around the world and its streets are lined with shops and restaurants celebrating every country you can think of. Bellerbys’ Brighton campus itself has a huge range of nationalities, for a truly multicultural experience in the UK.
Food and restaurants
The North Laine is just five minutes’ walk from campus and has many cafés and shops to enjoy. The city also has a thriving restaurant scene with award-winning places to eat and cuisines from around the world.
Places of worship
The city’s multicultural community has access to a variety of places of worship. In Brighton, you will find mosques, Catholic and Anglican churches, a Buddhist centre, an Islamic centre, synagogues, and Greek and Coptic Orthodox churches.
Museums and galleries
Explore local history at Brighton Museum and Art Gallery or the Booth Museum of Natural History. The Royal Pavilion is a beautiful Regency palace built for King George IV. Here you can learn about its interesting Royal history and admire the exotic mix of India and China-inspired décor.
Getting around
You can walk, cycle or take a bus to anywhere in the city. Brighton has a city bike share scheme called BTN Bikeshare. The buses and taxis are an easy way to travel across Brighton and surrounding areas.
Why not take a trip along the beach on an old Victorian railway line? Built in 1883, Volks Electric Railway is Britain’s oldest electric railway and takes you from the Aquarium to the Marina during the summer months.
The College is next to the Brighton train station so transport links are easy and convenient:
