History

Groupe ESC Clermont is a well-established French Business School. It was founded in 1919, under the patronage of the Ministry of Commerce, the City of Clermont-Ferrand, the Conseil Général du Puy-de-Dôme (General Council), the Chamber of Commerce and several partner companies. Since then, more than 12,000 men and women from all walks of life have walked the grounds of the Trudaine campus.

With a resolutely glocal outlook, Group ESC Clermont has strong relationships with local, national and international economic stakeholders. It partnerships with some 100 Higher Education Institutions in more than 50 countries and has an ever increasingly enriched faculty composed of  quality professors and researchers who are strongly committed to the Business School’s motto “School for Life”. With the development of its Programmes portfolio, and in particular the introduction of new programmes that are aligned with the changing needs of the globalized business world, innovation and pedagogy, Groupe ESC Clermont has a comprehensive course offering. The Bachelor in International Management, created in 2007, or the Master in Management programme, both figure prominently and regularly in national rankings (Le Figaro) and international rankings (Top 100 of the Financial Times).

Groupe ESC Clermont has been a state-recognised School ever since its inception, which certifies its legitimacy and solid reputation as a reliable Higher Education Institution. The “Grande Ecole” Programme (Bac+5 degree programmes) and the Bachelor Programme in International Management have the rank of master and visa respectively, both issued by the Ministry of Higher Education, Innovation and Research. They are also registered in the RNCP (a National Directory of Professional Certification) as level II and I, which recognises the relevance and coherence  of skills acquired during these programmes in relation to the job market.

Our Business School has been a member of the ‘Conférence des Grandes Ecoles’ since 1985, a member of the ‘Chapitre des Grandes Ecoles de Management’ since 1986, and has obtained international recognition with the awarding of the AACSB accreditation since 2005.

Groupe ESC Clermont is a learner-centric Business School organised on a human scale and promotes a global strategy with dual-competences and equal opportunities and diversity. It is a signatory of the charter of ‘Les Cordées de la Réussite’ (a scheme set up by the Ministry of Higher Education to promote access for young people, regardless of their socio-economic background, and quality in education) and a leading member of the organisation. In this context, it hosts the ‘Ecole de la 2e Chance Auvergne’ (a second-chance school scheme) and trains and accompanies 260 young men and women every year.

As the School looks to celebrate it’s 100th Anniversary, Groupe ESC Clermont is resolutely turned towards all kinds of modern pedagogy, the digital world and entrepreneurship and aims to be a place of learning and of experimentation and innovation for all its stakeholders from various horizons, networks and environments. The creation of the Business School’s intramural incubator in 2014 (SquareLab) and the inauguration in 2015 of its ‘Quartier des Labs’ (a combination of resources encouraging the implementation of projects and ultimately the employability of graduates), is powerful evidence of the dynamism driving Groupe ESC Clermont’s projects and strategy for the future.

Education

– International programmes.

– Learning by doing approach.

– Traditional disciplines (management, business, finance, project management..) and innovative specialisations (business intelligence, digital marketing, agility..)

– Practical orientation through internships, apprenticeships and job placements.

ACADEMIC CALENDAR
The year is divided into two semesters. The first starts in September and ends in January, the second starts in January and ends in May. The application period varies depending on the programmes. Both the international office and student administrative services are open during business hours (Central European Time) offering advice to incoming students.

Research

Pedagogical Innovation and Applied Research

Pedagogical innovation is embedded in the DNA of the Grandes Ecoles and today is a key strategic issue in the context of the digitalisation of business practices and of society as a whole.

With the help of its Foundation, the School wishes to acquire new resources to “make its revolution happen” by incorporating 360° vision digital technology and modernising the teaching tools.

Interacting with the programmes, labs and areas of excellence in the region, the Foundation supports studies and research which economic players and businesses find invaluable.

Our ambition and desire is to make the Groupe ESC Clermont shine out amongst the best AACSB accredited Business Schools.

Do you believe that the value of Groupe ESC Clermont graduates is linked to the School’s capacity to cultivate the wealth of teaching techniques and innovate both in terms of the content taught and the learning methods?

Through your own professional experience, you understand how valuable teachers’ expertise is in enlightening company directors and executives and opening your doors to fields of study and “useful” research.

By contributing to this academic area:

  • You will be directly involved in upgrading our teaching tools
  • You will accelerate the School’s publications, a crucial aspect of global competition in our market
  • You will be associated with the work and actions contributing to the development of our region (innovative ways of building programmes and pathways with businesses, projects conducted by student-teacher teams on behalf of public authorities, businesses and economic players, etc.)
  • You will be funding predoctoral fellowships for Masters’ students wishing to do a thesis in management science

Ultimately, the success of the Groupe ESC Clermont in terms of innovative pedagogy improves the general quality of the training programmes, the qualifications and the School as a whole. It really does serve all of its stakeholders

Career

Internships

During their study programme at the ESC Clermont, all students will gain work experience through internships. The length of time, period, objectives and obligations will therefore vary depending on the level of training and programme.

These professional experiences are an essential part of the training as:

  • They complement the knowledge gained during the course and provide students with the opportunity to apply it
  • They help to gradually refine and confirm career objectives. Performing a variety of assignments and finding out about business sectors and companies of different sizes and types of organisation, in France and abroad, helps students identify their choice of specialisation and career objectives and they build up their CV which they will eventually be presenting to recruiters and their future employer
  • They are a genuine springboard into employment
  • They help students become responsible, creative and entrepreneurial leaders.

Preparation for employment in the JobLab

Within the Groupe ESC Clermont, we have devised a support mechanism for helping students find their first job and which aims to:

  • make the transition from the academic world to the workplace easier, both now and in the future
  • train graduates who are adaptable

This mechanism is designed to help students:

  • Gradually become aware of their abilities, their personality and their individual potential, and know how to present themselves in a professional context
  • Find out about the executive labour market and the reality of the professions
  • Get the measure of professionals’ expectations in terms of skills
  • Master the recruitment techniques and the conventional and digital selection tools
  • Make the best use of the networks immediately available to them – social networks obviously, but human networks as well, especially the Association des Diplômés, the Groupe ESC Clermont graduate network
  • Acquire an instinct for high standards and openness, both in terms of conduct and intellectually, which are key to any management position in a business world which is undergoing fundamental changes

Ultimately, the support it provides enables each student to develop their career objectives and eventually choose their first job on the basis of relevance and sound judgement.
