You may be a new student living away from home for the first time, an international student adapting to life in a new country, or a mature student juggling study with bringing up children.
Our Student Centres will be your first port of call for help and guidance, once you join us. Our staff can provide broad advice and support, and direct you to specialist services you may need. There’s a Student Centre on each campus, so it’s easy to drop in for advice. Alternatively, book an appointment to see a trained adviser.
Here are the main support services we offer our students:
Academic support
Our online Academic Skills Centre can help you improve your essay writing, research skills, presentation and exam techniques and any additional study skills you may need. We also offer one-to-one tutorials with academic skills tutors and workshop sessions with subject librarians. Our workshops are free and run throughout term time.
Accessibility
We have a dedicated team to help students with a disability, including physical and mental health difficulties, long-term medical conditions and specific learning difficulties. We also support students from disadvantaged backgrounds and students who are carers.
Before you join the university, you can speak to the AccessAbility Team about any concerns on entering higher education and adapting to university life. Once you’re a student, we can provide further information and support, such as advice on assistive technology requirements and Disability Allowance Needs Assessors to help you access any financial help you may be entitled to.
Disability & Dyslexia Team
Here to help at any stage in your studies, the Disability & Dyslexia Team provides information and support, and offers advice on Assistive Technology requirements for people with disabilities. This includes support for students with mental health needs and long-term medical conditions. Whatever you need, just ask.
Counselling and wellbeing services
Our professional counsellors are on hand, should you need them, at any time during your studies. We support students with a range of issues, such as anxiety, low mood, stress and relationship problems. You can also get confidential advice and support from our Listening Ears, a network of university staff committed to student wellbeing.
Each campus has at least one university chaplain to help students settle in and provide information on local places of worship. Our chaplains also provide confidential pastoral care to those in distress or need, whether or not they have a faith of their own.
Togetherall
If you have an offer to study at the University of Greenwich, you can access an award-winning online mental health resource.
Our partnership with Togetherall (formerly the Big White Wall) provides you with free, safe and 24-hour online mental health support from a diverse community ahead of your first day with us.
Finance and funding
The university provides information and advice on financial issues, including budgeting and money management, financial hardship and debt management, and funds and bursaries.
You can book to see a student finance adviser at one of our Student Centres. Your adviser can check you’re receiving your full entitlement to financial assistance and help you budget and plan ahead.
