The University of Turku offers study and research opportunities in eight faculties and five independent units. University of Turku is an active international research university and a vibrant academic community of 25,000 students and employees from over 100 different countries.
The University of Turku was established in 1920. At the time, the University consisted of the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Turku Finnish University Society purchased the Phoenix hotel, built in 1878 right by the Market Square. The University operated from the building for 36 years, even though at first it was meant only as a temporary solution.

Turku University Library is the largest academic library in Southwest Finland and it is open to all.
The Turku University Library is an expert community that produces the information services required for research, teaching and studying at the university in a competent and effective manner whilst taking into consideration changes in the operational environment as well as anticipating them.
The library is developing its services proactively in order to respond to the changing information requirements of its clients. It offers information resources that internationally represent top quality for the use of the university community as well as versatile premises for various learning needs. Services and facilities are being developed in interaction with clients. The library functions actively as a member of the sector’s national and international networks, and utilizes applied networks-based services in its development work and services.

You can access the wireless network anywhere on campus. There are two networks: UTU Visitor for Visitors and  Eduroam.
All students are recommended to have a valid health insurance during their studies in Turku. Only with proper health insurance can all the costs be covered if you become ill during you stay in Finland.
Student health care (Finnish Student Health Service, FSHS) is available to all attending Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree students. The compulsory health care fee must be paid directly to Kela once per term (spring term 31 January and autumn term 30 September) either with Finnish online banking credentials or as a bank transfer. Doctoral students are not entitled to use the services of FSHS.
The Turku Campus of the University of Turku is located close to the city centre and the Aura river nearby the other higher education institutions, Turku Science Park companies, and the Turku University Hospital. The campus area extends from Turku Cathedral all the way to the Kupittaa railway station.
All the important services for students, personnel, and visitors alike are found close to the campus. Getting around everywhere is handy either by walking, cycling, or by the Föli city buses.
The joint goal of the higher education institutions of Turku and the City of Turku is to be Finland’s best student city! Active student life, easy and well-functioning public transport, and affordable housing are Turku’s great assets. As many as 99% of the city’s students of higher education institutions recommend Turku as a student city to their friends.
CampusSport offers sports services for the students and staff of the higher education institutions in Turku.
CampusSport’s facilities are located close to the city center in Turku.
TYY has over a hundred different organisations. There are subject associations, student nations and various other organisations.
All of the organisations are independently registered associations. The status of the organisations at TYY is regulated by the Regulation on sub-organisations and financial support.
TYY offers various services to its organisations. This includes, for example, counselling services, financial support, training and items and space for rent. Hopefully you will find the information you need to questions on organisations on these pages.
