Description

Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Program

Fulbright TEA brings international teachers to the United States for a six-week program that offers academic seminars for professional development at a host university. Participants observe classrooms and share their expertise with teachers and students at the host university and at local secondary schools.

More Details

  • Fulbright TEA participants foster positive interactions with Americans throughout their time in the United States, especially in American classrooms. All program participants have opportunities to observe, co-teach, and share their expertise in U.S. secondary schools.
  • Fulbright TEA participants are master teachers of English, English as a foreign language, science, mathematics, and social studies, including special education in those subject areas.

Goals

  • Promote mutual understanding among teachers, their schools, and communities in the United States and abroad by building teachers’ and students’ global competence, and by sharing teaching best practices internationally.
  • Provide in-service professional development to enhance teachers’ expertise in their disciplines and equip them with a deeper understanding of best practices in education.
  • Contribute to improving education in participating countries by preparing participants to serve as teacher leaders who will apply and share their experience and skills with their colleagues and students upon returning home.

Project Activities

  • Teacher training: Fulbright TEA participants engage in an intensive six-week professional development program at a U.S. university. They take part in academic seminars on new teaching methodologies, curriculum development, lesson planning, and instructional technology.
  • Field experience: Fulbright TEA participants are immersed in an American classroom environment. They have opportunities to observe, co-teach, and share their expertise in U.S. secondary schools, building collaborative, lasting connections with U.S. teachers and students.
  • Best practice exchange: Fulbright TEA participants study and observe international best practices in education and share their own professional knowledge with educators and students in the United States.
  • Civic and cultural activities: Fulbright TEA participants take part in American cultural activities such as performances, sporting events, U.S. home hospitality visits, and trips to historical sites.

Eligibility Requirements (Criteria)

Who is eligible for Fulbright TEA?

  • Current secondary level, full-time teachers of English, English as a foreign language (EFL), math, science, or social studies, including special education teachers in those subjects at an institution serving primarily a local population
  • Five years of full-time teaching experience
  • Citizen and resident of participating Fulbright TEA country
  • Other requirements as indicated in the application

  • West Bank/Gaza
  • Turkey

Opportunity Cost

(Fully Funded)

TEA is fully funded through the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA), U.S. Department of State and provides:

  • J-1 Visa support.
  • International airline ticket, in addition to reimbursement for domestic round trips.
  • Housing.

Maintenance allowance that covers expenses such as class supplies, household and personal items, medical co-payments and other activities. It also includes daily stipend that covers food expenses. Costs associated with housing, required program activities and other program related expenses are also covered and may vary by host university.
