History
The history of higher education in Pécs dates back to 1367, when Louis the Great initiated the establishment of a university in the episcopal city of Pécs. As a result of an integration process of several stages, the University of Pécs was founded, which has become one of the most famous, prestigious institutions having a leading role in regional education. It has ten faculties which cover the full spectrum of high-quality higher education.

Housing services
The University of Pécs has ten dormitories. They are located in quiet, residential areas of the city. The Faculties of the University as well as the city centre are easily accessible from the dormitories. Most of the dormitories have recently been renovated. The rooms are nicely furnished and contain bathrooms. Bedclothes are supplied. Rooms are offered on a reasonable price level: approximately EUR 130 per month.

Library services
The main task of the library is to facilitate the educational, research, healing, scientific and artistic activities carried out at the university, but as a public library it is also open to the citizens of the region. It is one of the bases of domestic interlibrary document services. As the head institution of the library network of the University of Pécs it organizes the activities of the faculty and institute libraries and also performs central tasks. Its use of an integrated computerized library system ensures the usage of domestic and foreign databases necessary for research.
Medical services
First aid and emergency medical care are free
for foreigners, in other cases you have to pay
for the treatment. A full coverage general health
insurance for Hungary is a prerequisite for registration at any faculty of the University of
Pécs.

Student life
Campus life
Students are the heart and soul of Pécs, with university life on campus energetic and lively. The Student Union organizes regular dance parties, concerts and special events such as the International Evening, the University Days and excursions to tourist destinations. A wide range of sporting opportunities is offered as well to support international students.
The city offers a wide variety of cultural activities such as concerts, art exhibitions, theatre performances, and dance shows. The city of Pécs was selected to be The European Capital of Culture in 2010.
Sports facilities
Sporting life at the University is coordinated by the TTK Sport Centre University of Pécs, which offers a wide range of sporting opportunities to the students and staff. The Centre organises various programmes that are attractive and accessible to everybody, irrespective of age, faculty or past training, which is a wonderful opportunity for recreation and regeneration.
You can apply for the courses at the beginning of each semester at the NEPTUN (except: Dancing University). Since these courses are compulsory for Hungarian students, tutors take attendance seriously, so you are also kindly advised to attend courses regularly. You should bring clothes and shoes that are characteristic for the sport you have chosen. All the necessary equipment (racquets, tennis balls, etc.) will be available on the spot.
Student clubs
The Student Union is the official representative
institution of university students. The University Student Union (EHÖK in Hungarian) oversees
student affairs at a university level. As an international student, you will meet other student
organizations as well, including ESN, AEGEE and
AIESEC. Each offer a wide range of learning, travel, recreational and voluntary opportunities for
our students. Participating in these organizations
can help you to make new friends and encounter
new experiences.
